The World's Most Adopted Quality Standard

From BS 5750 to ISO 9001:2015 — Nearly 40 Years of Continuous Refinement

ISO 9001 traces back to the UK's BS 5750 standard and has been revised five times since 1987 — each edition sharpening its focus, from early quality assurance procedures to today's risk-based, process-driven approach to management.

Developed and maintained by ISO/TC 176/SC 2, ISO 9001:2015 is used by well over a million certified organizations worldwide, across every industry and organization size, making it the common language of quality management globally.

2015

Risk-based thinking and Annex SL

The current edition embedded risk-based thinking throughout the standard and adopted the High-Level Structure shared across all ISO management system standards.

2024

Amendment 1 — Climate Change

Amd 1:2024 added an explicit requirement to consider climate change within the organization's context — covered in full in this course.

Timely Update — What the 2026 Revision Means for You

ISO 9001:2026 Is on the Way — ISO 9001:2015 Remains Fully Valid for Years to Come

ISO's technical committee has been working on the next edition of the standard, with publication of ISO 9001:2026 expected later this year. That update will bring its own set of changes — but it does not make today's knowledge obsolete.

Once a new edition is published, ISO gives certified organizations a transition period of roughly three years to migrate. That means ISO 9001:2015 will remain applicable, auditable, and fully relevant for years after the 2026 edition is released — so there is no reason to wait to build this knowledge now.

2015 edition stays valid ~3 more years

Sound familiar?

Four reasons ISO 9001 feels harder than it should

This course is built to solve all four.

01

The standard reads like a legal document

ISO 9001:2015's official wording is dense and formal. Most people can recite a clause number without being able to explain, in their own words, what it actually requires an organization to do.

02

Clause numbers get memorized, not understood

Knowing that "Clause 8.5.2 is about identification and traceability" is not the same as recognizing a traceability gap on the shop floor. Auditors and implementers need the second skill, not just the first.

03

Consultants make it sound more complicated than it is

ISO 9001:2015 does not mandate a quality manual, a formal risk register, or dozens of rigid procedures. Yet many organizations over-build their QMS because no one explained what is actually required versus merely common practice.

04

It's unclear what an auditor is really checking for

Passing an audit is not about reciting the standard — it's about showing that requirements are genuinely being met. This course teaches you to think the way an auditor thinks, clause by clause.

What you'll master

Every clause, explained so it actually makes sense

From the fundamentals through Clause 10 — you will know not just what each clause says, but what it means in practice.

Explain the seven quality management principles, the process approach, risk-based thinking, and the PDCA cycle behind ISO 9001:2015
Distinguish maintained vs. retained documented information, and know exactly what documentation the standard truly requires
Apply Clause 4 to define organizational context, interested parties, and QMS scope correctly
Recognize what genuine top management commitment and leadership under Clause 5 looks like — and what it doesn't
Set measurable quality objectives and plan for risks, opportunities, and changes under Clause 6
Cover resources, competence, awareness, communication, and document control under Clause 7 — Support
Navigate Clause 8 in depth — planning, customer requirements, design and development, external providers, production, and release
Design meaningful monitoring, internal audits, and management reviews under Clause 9 — Performance Evaluation
Handle nonconformities, corrective action, and continual improvement correctly under Clause 10
Reason through real audit-style scenarios — spotting genuine nonconformities and avoiding common misinterpretations of the standard

A structured, clause-by-clause path from foundational concepts through Clause 10 — each section builds on the last.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is ISO 9001:2015 still worth learning with ISO 9001:2026 coming out?
Yes. ISO 9001:2026 is expected to be published later this year, but ISO gives certified organizations a transition period of approximately three years after a new edition is released. That means ISO 9001:2015 will remain valid, certifiable, and auditable for years to come — and the vast majority of certified organizations worldwide are still operating under the 2015 edition today. This course teaches the standard as it currently applies.
Will this course be updated for ISO 9001:2026?
This course covers ISO 9001:2015, including the 2024 climate change amendment. Once ISO 9001:2026 is officially published, Quality Gurus Inc. plans to create a separate, dedicated course covering the new edition and what has changed — so you will not need to wait for that update to start learning the current standard now.
Do I need any prior knowledge of ISO 9001 or quality management?
No prior knowledge is required. The course starts from foundational concepts — the seven quality management principles, the process approach, PDCA, and risk-based thinking — before moving clause by clause through the full standard.
Is this an official ISO certification or training?
This is an educational course from Quality Gurus Inc. designed to build a thorough working understanding of ISO 9001:2015. It is not an official certification issued by ISO or an accredited certification body, and it does not certify an organization's QMS. On completion you receive a Quality Gurus Inc. certificate of completion with pre-approved PMI PDUs and SHRM PDCs.
Does the course cover the 2024 climate change amendment?
Yes. The course includes ISO 9001:2015/Amd 1:2024, which added an explicit requirement to consider climate change as part of understanding the organization's context, along with related guidance on integrating climate considerations into the QMS.
Do I earn PDUs, PDCs, and a certificate?
Yes. On completion you receive a Quality Gurus Inc. certificate of completion worth 5.0 pre-approved PMI PDUs (Quality Gurus Inc. is a PMI Authorized Training Partner, ATP #6034) and 5.0 SHRM PDCs (Quality Gurus Inc. is a SHRM Recertification Partner), at no additional cost. The course is also CPD Accredited (UK) — Provider #784310, Accreditation #1016180.
Is this useful if my organization is already ISO 9001 certified?
Yes. Many students take this course specifically to deepen their understanding of a standard their organization is already certified against — closing gaps between what auditors check for and what teams assume is required, and preparing for the eventual transition to ISO 9001:2026.
How long will I have access to the course?
You receive 365 days of full access to all course content from the date of enrolment, including any updates made during that period.

Understand ISO 9001:2015 — before it's time to learn the next edition.

Join hundreds of thousands of quality professionals who learn with Quality Gurus Inc. — and build the foundation that carries you through the 2026 transition.
